i dont have the patience to try and program my own drums in synths etc. same with programming most other things. id much rather just piss around with something, make a bunch of noises and sample anything good that comes out of it

As of around last year I've been making all my drum sounds on my microkorg, recording them, dumping them into my compy, then loading them onto the emx or just arranging them on the computer.

Really? Would you mind sharing your drum program(s) with me? I'd tried it a couple of times, but the result was crap.

And yeah, I totally don't understand what the poster is asking. But I'll try my best to answer anyway:

I do a mix of slicing up beats and using just the default packs in Fruity Loops, with effects and stuff on them. Then I use some packs from here too. As far as arranging/making beats, all in Fruity Loops. Usually I'll just take samples and throw them into the bottom half of the playlist (whatever it's called) and arrange them that way. Easiest that way because I can see exactly where everything is and rearrange it on the fly.

I use sampled and drums I have made myself. not by synthesis, but altering and editing samples to make them sound the way I want. especially kick drums. I make all my own kick drums. and then all my friends use them. lol.

I think self made drums are important since they make you unique.. but there are some things that you can't do yourself... the amen (just and example, there are many others as well) is and will always be a classic and a very good break.

So I think the best is to use both... so it makes your overused break feel unique and your own made drumset feel epic.

Seriously.

WTF ARE YOU ALL TALKING ABOUT

If we're talking about taking a drum loop and making it sound different, then that's EQing (and using other fx) .. not "self made drums" ...

Or are we talking about using a chain of oscillators to simulate the sound of a snare?

OR .. are we talking about mic'ing up a drum kit and pressing record as you bang away like the hairy ape you are?

I notice the original poster hasn't bothered his spotty arse to put a word in clarifying his infuriatingly half-baked question. I have this to say to him: FUCK YOU!!! Learn how to ask questions because I can't stand people speculating and other associated bullshit!

ahthankyou

i think they meant...do you use loops or do you use one-hits to make/build your beats

Is it possible to do both at the same time ? I mean piano rolling an amen sample for instance and messing it up (Fl users will know what i mean)

Thats exactly what i do, i send all my breaks to piano roll, Then you can edit them good.

How otherwise can you get fragmented demented beats without piano roll?

You use fruity loops too right, tracks are awesome!
