Schizophrenia is an interesting one as they've never really been able to confirm whether the condition causes the enlargement of ventricles, or whether expanding ventricles cause the condition. A most fascinating subject matter. I think as treatment they should stick a needle through the brain and let out some of the liquids inside the ventricles, maybe if you drain away some gubbins you drain away the mentalism.

Last month i was bit scared i've got schizophrenia. But then i realised no, it was just salvia mixed with weed. Don't smoke salvia and weed within short period of time kids!

I also believe I have seen somewhere, but cannot find, images of identical twin infants, one with the enlarged ventricles and one without.

So in essence, one is born with the capacity for the illness. It may never happen though, but through trauma's and other such things, it could be developed.

Also oddly enough, I've seen brain scans of alcoholics, which have some of the exact same abnormalities as schizophrenics. They, however, don't have hallucinations of any kind or any of the tell tale signs of schizophrenia.

Korsakoffs tends to hit Alcoholics more, that hits your memory for the most part. There is certainly a hereditory component to Schizophrenia, but it is not the sole deciding factor, as with twin studies we can often look to social causes. Like, both twins could have been born with an increased risk of developing the condition, all they need is a social stressor to set one of them off.
