Breakore ?

Postby earthgermz » Fri May 27, 2011 7:48 pm

I thought i'd ask these questions to see what the breakore community think and believe and to get some knowledge of breakore in general. Your opinions and knowledge will be far greater than searching the web for random bits and pieces. Thanks In Advance for anyone who takes the time to help me out

Was there a certain year the genre breakcore was created or if not what releases were first classed as breakore ?
Who Started the breakore movement or claims to of had?
Who have been the most innovative producers within this genre ?
What events/free parties/raves have kept alive the breakore movement and what ones are still doing so?
What labels have released quality releases time and again or brought new innovative artist to peoples attentions?
who are the top 5 breakore artist in 2011 ?

Well, I'm no expert but I think most people would agree that its Aphex Twin. Though I guess it was just a natural thing to move towards from Jungle techno. Its been around since at least 1996. "Come to Daddy" came out around then & Hecate even had a few records out at that point, though it was more fucked up industrial with just some little flashes of breakcore type stuff.

Who have been the most innovative producers within this genre ?

Venetian Snares innovated the most, he was really fucked in the head and 'out there'. I had to be really stoned to first start to understand the grooves in his music.

Breakcore scene is mainly in Europe, so I don't know what they're like. There are some breakcore nights here in NY. Darkmatter in LA is supposed to big. But I've always heard Breakcore Gives Me Wood, Crackbeats, Bangface, were all the biggest. Oh, and System Corrupt. Lots of party pictures online.

There's actually a wiki page for all this shit, just google it. its a decent sum up...
eh, there's no movement really. everybody's against everybody else, except for maybe there's this common negative inspiration of being pissed off with annoying pop, rap, & club music.

oh yeah, & there's a pretty good documentary on it with interviews, duh. how could i forget. 'notes on breakcore' you should check it out

I think Maladroit should be kept well away from the top 5, I could probably write an essay as to why I think his music is as mediocre as it gets. Stick to the innovators who pushed the music in new directions, even if they are no longer churning out the tunes: Venetian Snares, Dev/Null, Xanopticon, Doormouse, Drop the Lime, Sickboy etc

Well...thats just what I like about him. He is so easy, Just like Juditpriest and bambambam, it sounds alful ceap. But it stil has the energy and drum ritms that are making it awsome. To me, that Maladroit song on ketacore, is one of the best Core songs ever.

But I agee that he does not come near 200 other producers ther Quality or origenalety.

Yeah I never understood the popularity shot I suppose, a lot of people say the same about Bong-Ra, especially when it comes to production/mastering. The last Maladroit I heard was Best breakcore album volume 2 or whatever, and there really weren't many arrangements on there, was just like whacky mashup with amens pasted over it, sounded like the sort of stuff I used to produce (which by my own admission was terrible). It's fun i'll give it that, but it's kinda just like what Shitmat and co were doing years ago, only less techy. I'm just an art-Breakcore snob though, I have my willy in the rectum's of all the weird splintered stuff (Snares, Xanopticon, Shatterbreak etc).

I agree (except not for the part that joure stuf was crap)......but the IDM breakcore has its own weakness. Some producers are so lost in making the most dificult, squeking, reverb abstract track. It becomes boring. I love A.L.F but Stockholm syndrom orchestra was not intresting to me....looked like a faild Szamár Madár
talking about snares gives me the next example of boring core.....http://www.planet.mu/discography/ZIQ299

yep.. venetian snares, but lately there's been 3 producers on my radar that really push the limits: doc colibri/ruby my dear (same guy), nero's day at disneyland and foxdye. aphex twin and squarepusher most definately have been a great influence on the development of breakcore.
earthgermz wrote:What labels have released quality releases time and again or brought new innovative artist to peoples attentions?

planet mu but not mainly breakcore there, rephlex is be very influential (i dont think there are any explicit breakcore releases on there, mainly IDM/acid/some more experimental jungle, but the definition of breakcore can vary a LOT)
earthgermz wrote:who are the top 5 breakore artist in 2011?

to me (not really 2011 but what the hell i'll give it a go):
1. venetian snares (his cubist reggae record that came out last week is barely 'breakcore' anymore but it's great)
2. nero's day at disneyland although that lazy fucker really needs to release new music
3. ruby my dear
4. VERY innovative is tim exile's listening tree but also the lesser known hanzo steel cuts.
5. Foxdye has some amazing sounds

I dunno to me breakcore is all crazy, weird, loud electronic music... the question always comes up to me: what defines breakcore? is it crazyness? because then i consider stuff by the tuss or dj scotch egg breakcore too.
it is a fun thing to philosophize about

Here's a track Alec Empire posted on the ATR Facebook page. It's the earliest Breakcore I can think of.
1994: Force Inc, DJ Bleed and Bass Terror is taking over HR3 radio show in Frankfurt. super rare DJ mix including Carl Crack on the mic and early DHR Alec Empire breakcore (around 57min...right after Ian Pooley.) Atari Teenage Riot & raw Acid

Maximum boost for all the reply's
This info will be of great use to me and hopefully others who aren't as familiar with the breakore elite. I expected V.snares to crop up i love some off his tracks on Rossz csillag alatt született. Planet Mu Rocks they release so much innovative and original music, would love to get a release on that label
 Shall check out all the info vids and artists that weren't on my radar and let you know what i think by answering my own questions in the future
maximum respect :D
