ATR used breakloops as early as 92 & 93 but as to when that turned into the more fucked up stuff... ? Have you heard some of Alec Empire's solo cds? I had Hyperfunk, & some other one with a burger king reciept in it. I don't think he could write breakcore if he wanted to. Not back then anyway, probably not even now, since he's very anti-software.
no disrespect, their sound's more influential than i gave em credit for. rave synths in an angry setting, plundering samples from everywhere.. and all that i still say cum 2 daddy was more the turning point.

Was come to daddy even a sampled break? I dunno really, the essence of Breakcore is surely sampling, a lot of Aphex seems to be original production when it comes. Definitely The Peak by Alec Empire is the earliest example of Hard Breakcore that I can still think of it, there's not much to it but it sure as heck doesn't fit in to pure jungle or d'n'b. Different releases credit its writing from different times, it's some time between 95 and 97 though.
