ohh yea.. Along with Sonic Subjunkies, Christoph De Babalon, Bomb 20, The Flex Busterman album ( way ahead of the chiptune game ) and of course Alecs solo releases on the label. These artists in my opinion were more "breakcore" than ATR.

Well, ATR claimed to play Digital Hardcore, so yeah, obviously they didn't play pure breakcore. Also, I've always figured Sonic Subjunkies as some kind of cyberpunk jungle. Still fucking awesome, thou.

"The MAJOR advantage of software is the price. Most of us are regular working-class kids. Shit, I haven't had a steady job in six years now, how would I be able to pay for a new compressor, a second distortion pedal or paying for repairs?
I can get a computer, even a laptop, for next to nothing and pirate the hardware. A cheap computer and a 80$ midi-controller, that's it."

an AKAI S-6000 is about 250€ these days.
the zvex pedal the guy just posted the link to 300€.
an Atari , sequencer, is 30 €...

get some mackie mixer or something...

I am sure if you invest about 1000-1500€ you have a killer set up.
(If you spread that out over 2 years, it's 60 € per month. and use your laptop for editing and extra software effects which add.)

Back then we were only able to afford it because we first did a shitty job, boykotted all rubbish consumer goods (no TV, no fashion, no luxury items like Xboxes and stuff - I even stuck to my no drugs, no alcohol rule...you will be surprised how much more money you end up having each month).

AND , and that is the main difference to now, people from the scene supported each other with...money (because they BOUGHT the records)... this is why it grew and built steadily...
people these days got tricked into thinking free mp3s help them raise their profiles somehow...ten years of that have shown, they don't. This might change at some point when the sound is represented right in the digital formats like mp3... but right now, someone who doesn't know, is not won over by the energy of breakcore because it doesn't sound convincing and powerful over the internet.

Artists, especially those in the underground, deserve to get paid for their work. They should not be driven by money or profit making though.

On gear...there is a real difference between consumer gear which leads to nothing in reality, and independent pro gear (which is also not so expensive because those guys do it in their garage and don't spend anything on advertising.) People might think a Micro Korg is cheap, but it is actually expensive because it is worth nothing.

We all started with nothing...don't let that get into your head. This is why an active local scene is so important. You create a network which makes each individual stronger.

Hail Alec and everybody !

I'm realy not agree with you about mp3 promotion over the internet. Without myspace it was impossible for me to be known cause I live in a place where underground electronic music scene is REALY bad (I live in Aix en Provence in the south of France).
Into spreading my music for free all over the internet I was able to release a track on Peace Off and find gigs in Belgium, Poland and now in london (i'm happy hehehe) and I will release a new CD realy soon.

So, now I have found some people in Marseille that make some realy interresting event and I will finaly can play near where I live.

I'm agree with you about the analog gear and hardware shit, the sound is fuckin'better and everybody can find some realy cheap good and old gear like S-6000 (I will buy one in the year I think).

So let make music (or noise), sorry for my bad english.

I think Alec should throw the electro out of the window for one minute and record another "pure" Breakcore track, or even album. Just to show us how it can still be done.

Just a thought..... doesnt anyone here steal anything tangible anymore? I guess its fine to steal tens of thousands of dollars worth of music and software and movies or whatever over the coarse of a year because its so hard to get caught. But, dont any of you kids steal your gear?

Gear is physical, if I steal it then the original owner no longer owns it, when I download music at least i'm not depriving the original owner of their work, just presumably the money they hope to make from it. But then I buy all the good albums and delete all the shit albums any way, so it's win win win.

Ha ha. I was thinking theft from stores or fraud. however yeah... some people just dont need their gear. I suppose we could debate the morality of these kinds of acts. But your not going to change my opinion and i dont care to change anyone elses. I just belive that regardless of money people can get what they want in life if its important enough to them.
