how teh fuk does Calyx make their bass?
I understand that wobbleing acidic basses are done by LFO filter and res.
But i dont understand how they get it so fine and crisp sounding? and it's not really acid wobble sounds either, its like dark drum and bass crystal LFO'd sounds.
HOW THE FUK DO THEY DO IT?
What are good combo's??
Two channels with bass samplers on with lfo enabled
one on triangle and one on sine?
or one on saw and one on sine?
HOW?

the key is resampling man.
here's how you can get some nice sounds in fruity
What you need:
-a reece/hoover/whatever bass (preferably make your own and then save it as a .wav to resample later if you want)
-distortion, EQ, and modulation plugs (PSP Nitro, TubeBooster, Sonalksis, etc.)
-your favorite bass VST (to make a simple sub later on)
Instructions:
1. Open up a new, blank FL file and load up 3 instances of your bassline/bass sample. You can go ahead and name them "Low", "Medium", and "High" if you want. Optional: make a layer and set its children to these 3 channels, that way you can sequence all in one channel
2. We need to split up the frequencies properly for each of these channels, so lets load up a few instances of Fruity Free Filter
To break it down better:
-FX Insert 1 (Low): 1 Fruity Free Filter, Low pass @ 150 to 200 hz, depending on your bass
-FX Insert 2 (Mid): 2 Fruity Free Filters, one is High pass @ 150 to 200 hz, and the other is a Low pass @ ~3.5 kHz
-FX Insert 3 (High): 1 Fruity Free Filter, High Pass @ ~4.2 kHz
3. Now that we got the frequency splitting properly set up, route each copy of the bass/sample to the appropriate FX channel.
(I.E., your "Low" sample is routed to FX 1, "Mid" to FX 2, etc.)
4. Time to muck around with effects and distortion! Remember that the order in which the chain of effects is processed will have an effect on your sound.
-Lows: Very little processing here, I added a very subtle but firm compressor to keep the signal from going everywhere.
-Mids: Chorus and Distortion mods have a profound effect in here. Muck around with some tube distortion plugs like Tube Booster. If you want to add some movement to the bass, modulation plugs like PSP Nitro really add some funky body to your sound.
-Highs: Flanger/Phasers/Reverb can help bring out those crisp highs in the bassline. The FL plug-ins do a fairly decent job with this, but if you wanna get your hands dirty I suggest getting some 3rd party plug-ins.
5. Now the bass should have some potential. Go back to each FX Insert that we created earlier and start doing some EQing to bring out the best of each channel. SUBTRACTIVE EQing is probably your best approach here at first, rather than boosting right off the bat.
6. If the sub is still lacking on your bass, here's where your favorite VST comes in handy. I wanted to keep it simple, so I just opened up 3xOSC and made 2 sine waves tuned the same. Then I routed it to the FX Insert 1 (our "Low" effects insert) to blend it well with the samples.
7. Start listening to the bass! Adjust your EQs, throw some filter mods into the master channel and automate the crap out of your 3 frequencies to make some unique bass!

sound. ta for your tips. i tried that out on fruitloop today and made somethin, if you wana hear i put it on http://www.myspace.com/captaincrunch666 lol. would like ur opinion on it. some one say i may want to vary the tone around and not make the synthing sounds as repetive. im not sure. im happy with this though for a start of using a different method
