im trying to write a track that'll top vsnares' giant alien force haha and im about 3:30 into it and i cant think of anyhting else


usually when i cant finish a track i try to sleep on it, i can come up with alot in that whole semi-conscious pseudo sleep

iv been trying to invision a whole storyline for this track
i really like the concept of writing music to events or flashbulb memories but iv never been able to pull it off

i usually go find a good sample or hook then write around that... then i name the song after the sample, as is the tradition in this field of electronica music and that tradition shall be adhered to and revered now and forever.

cigerettes too! whenever we jam, its always, smoke break, talk about things we should do to the track, and then completely throw out what we talked about.

I also have many half songs, sucks so much now, haven't finished a track in months i think.

What i do now cutting bits out of one half of song and implementing in another half song and so on, usually comes out more shitty, so i start another

here are my tips for being creative.

- Try creativity exercises, combine things together which normally would be absurd. How does a rock sound? and how do yellow strawberries sound?? Make a list of these things, try to create a sample library of them to use in your projects.

- Write a story line for your tracks. it could be about anything (your ex-lover or chicken aliens with tentacle arms who will destroy all of the human race) Make sure it has a beginning, a middle and an end (changes in emotions/events) write down your emotive associations along with the story and use those two combined to create the basic structure of your track.

- Limit your resources. Take ten vocal samples, created by your self, a saw wave and two breaks as a sample library. Creativity can arise out of the necessity to be creative. It you have fewer options available you have to improvise. this helps you think 'outside of the box' and usually is a great source of happy accidents.

- Quit pressuring yourself to make your music sound or be like you originally intended (do not try to live up to other artists standards. you'll never be them) it is much more original and satisfying to produce something you thought of by yourself. Besides that: the original concepts of most tracks change and grow while writing them. Let them.

- Save your track under a different name, load it up, totally mess things up, mix old hippy songs into it, try the craziest things you can think of, sample, resample and use it in you original project.

- Look at the song structure of similar tracks and try to figure out where they are going with their themes and do the opposite (or borrow if you're a lazy producer)

I have a writers block for 6 monts now.
So the thing im doing now is making som noizy abiant stuff.
I used up al kind of Steve Reich, Nina Simone and self made samples. The next thing Im gona do is make some track for Peter,s (Dr Bibber, Odal, Fucking basterds) Nedernoiz comp.

I stopt producing Breakcore stuf for a wille now (it realy suckt bad ), I will take it up in September. (want to try to make some kind of I:GOR/Detest/Dolfin Core)

i don't think that you can 'find a way to get back into a track'. it needs to happen when it happens. if you can't finish something now, it's because it's not meant to be finished now. don't be discouraged. work on something else until you get that feeling back, and if it doesn't come back, then that song was never meant to be finished at all. maybe it can be combined with a future idea to be something even better.

there are ways i get over "writer's block."

the main one is kind of along what sweetpeapod said. i never try to force myself to write a track if im not in the mood. its like when youre trying to fuck someone, you want them to be in the mood otherwise the sex will always be bad. because there are many moods i have, i try to write different kinds of music. horse force is about 20% of the music i write.

i try to approach making a breakcore track similarly to the way painters approach a painting. sometimes i will take the classical approach and plan the whole thing out and study other breakcore "masters" and borrow techniques and song forms from them. other times i will take an impressionist approach and remix an existing song to make it sound cooler. those impressionists were very bcore sometimes.

other times i take the fun route and try to be an abstract expressionist. i will throw ideas down as they come to me, in no logical order, and not stop til im finished.


"writer's block" is really just having motivation without inspiration.

i guess the real approach to making bcore, or any art for that matter, is optimizing your life to feed your inspiration as much as you can. when you are uninspired, why not listen to music and learn more about it? learn techniques and learn about form, not only in bcore, but in ALL music. why do you think vsnares started doing classical music stuff? it was cause he was listening to classical and found the cool stuff (Bartok.) this inspired him and because he is such a diligent worker, he cranked out an album in a matter of months.
