Metal

Postby Necryte » Thu Aug 25, 2011 5:56 pm

From what I've seen, most people that like breakcore are also into metal. Just curious if most of you guys started out listening to before you started listening to breakcore. For myself, it was metal, and speedcore.

I used to be really into metal, thrash/black metal are my favourites. Then I discovered punk rock and hardcore. Now I'm really into metalpunk like Syphilitic Vaginas:

I listened to a lot of metal when I was in my teens, but at the risk of sounding a little patronising I feel as if I, well, grew out of it. Nowadays I just can't listen to it at all, any of it really. I love harsh abrasive music, and I love stuff like post-hardcore and math rock which is often heavy and fast, I just find metal a bit naff. Some of the instrumental arrangements are quite good and provide for excellent sampling opportunities, but none of the lyrical subject matters ever tickle me, at best I find them elusive and at worst downright childish and corny, kinda like emceeing and gangster samples in Dutch Gabber; cheeeeeeeseball!

This shit is heavy imho, and I fucking love it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7b5-3kP ... re=related

Probably looks stupid and daft with all the diving around, there's just a fine line between hardcore punk and thrash/metal which I just don't like to cross ha.

when i was really young i used to listen 2 hardcore then i was in my early teens i only listened to hip hop mainly underground shit like def jux and anticon, then i started listening to the producers albums on those labels like rjd2 and alais and da vinci from s.o.s, but thro that i started listening to IDM and ambient drone/noise stuff, i always felt like it was really cool but just didnt have an aggresive enough sound so i looked about and discovered breakcore and it just seemed like it was what i had always been looking for! but then through alot of breakcore and noise stuff i later discovered alot of really cool "metal" shit

this pretty much sums up all of my experience with non-breakcore related metal music. I've crossed this line in the past and have regretted it down the line every time haha

I like some metal. I barely know any of the "classic" metal bands because frankly, i never gave them a shot. But i do love rhythmic, heavy goregrind and "brutal death slam" or whatever the fuck it's called.

EDIT:
BLACK METAL.

(lol)

I was into that stuff for the LONGEST fucking time. Check out Cattle Decapitation, if you haven't already heard of them.

I don't really like it, no offense. It's not... consistent enough? It seems to change too frequently and sounds like he's just cutting and glitching at random, then stopping and playing a sample and then starts to cut and glitch again.

...but that's just my opinion.

I'm looking for a cross between Speedcore and IDM. That'd be ideal for me. Just fast, fucking hard bass, with cut up drums and glitches, and a soft melody in the back.

Yeah, they are, but they are too soft for me sometimes. So I have to be in the mood for them.

I think I also found much metal took itself a bit too seriously, i'm not sure how bands can class themselves as "epic majestic funeral doom grind" without chuckling a little. I mean some of the face paint and uniforms are just daft, and would marry up with a big tongue inside a cheek very well in any other circumstances.

I can't even listen to ATR any more, although I suspect that has nothing to do with heavy metal and more to do with ATR being ATR, if you catch my drift.

I like Devo
