Effects that sound good on breaks

Postby davedavidson » Sun Sep 11, 2011 11:48 pm

Wondering what effects people like to use on their break-beats? I like Time stretching, a bit of distortion and reverb, sometimes just a clean break sounds good enough. There’s an effect that weyheyhey!! And Venetian snares use sometimes that sounds really nice, you can really hear it in this weyheyhey!! Tune between 2.37-2.50 when the drums solo out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGrl0pckUow, it sounds really crisp and granular, kind of like it’s been time stretched.

I rarely use anything but distortion on my breakbeats. All glitches and shizzle are made manually by cutting, copying and pasting.

you can make your own comb-filter style effect with a simple delay, set the time very very small (just a few ms) and set the wet/dry around 30-50%. varying the delay time will alter the "pitch" of the effect. its a very cool effect IMO

crush, tonal delay, delay, chorus, flanger, stretch, filter of any type (LP, HP etc...) distortion, pitch up, down, any type of automation on those sound good in breakcore/IDM, also any effect sound pretty much good in breakcore, depend on when you use it...

i after creating a break like to add a bit of overdrive, not so that t distorts it but rather to give it that analogue sound. and possibly some reverb to give it that acoustics sound at the end of my effects chain.

but upon fucking up a break the only thing i suggest is using a bit crusher, you can take single hits and have them time stretched, reversed, pitched down and choped to ity bity hits. there is not many effects i would put over my drums besides maybe some filter sweeps and some delay, but i hardly ever do so, just don't be a n00b and put flangers on your amens.
