Hmm, I know he's not the hardcore stuff that's liked around here, but Amon Tobin's always been a excellent producer.

Tech Itch is typically fun, Venetian Snares hasn't failed me yet.
Alec Empire's early stuff is wonderful to m'ears.

Then there's always Black Sun Empire (Netherlands) or Evol Intent (if your on the American Side of things).

on topic; i loathe the word 'producer' it's so fucking generic. Especially when used in conjunction with 'content'. It's like people are embarrassed to call themselves musicians or something.

Agreed. The term "musician" is completey bypassed for some reason.

RZA, Quincy Jones, Rick Rubin, etc), not "who is your favourite breakcore artist?".

You have to wonder, if Beethoven or Mozart or one of the great classical composers were around today, what would it sound like? Rossz might be the obvious answer, but I was just listening to Abelcain's "The Garden" record and I don't think it's that far of a stretch.

I love breakcore just for what it is, that being (in most cases) aggressive music. But some of it just seems to run a little deeper, like it's not something a person would ever grow out of. The producers who make that kind of music are my favorites. Here's a few:

Abelcain (if I had to pick only one...)
Xanopticon
Subskan
Slepcy
Undacova
Emotional Joystick
Line 47
Snares (yeah, whatever else you might think of him, he is a musical genius)

I think all of these guys produce music that does not need to be taken in the context of "hardcore electronic" or anything like that, but stands on its own. I think I'll be listening to their music when I'm 80. A lot of the other stuff in the genre, well, I don't know. Not to pick on any single artist, but Shitmat comes to mind (just as an example) as stuff I highly doubt will be in rotation on my Mindpod©* when I'm an old fart. It's fun, he's talented at what he does, etc., but is it just a flash in the pan?
