Hey there!

Postby Steviant » Mon Jun 02, 2008 8:45 pm

Greetings, beings from planet Breakcore.

I'm Steviant, I'm a music production degree student at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, England. I have been a huge fan of Digital Hardcore for years, and have recently discovered breakcore, and loving what I hear :). Oddly enough, when I was dabbling in making DH music, it ended up sounding 'bigger' and slightly less constrained than DH, so imagine my shock when I discovered that I'd essentially been making breakcore all this time :).

Anyways, love the site, and the community here seems really cool. Look forward to being a part of it all.

Steviant.

For the short time I've been here, they're a friendly bunch around here. Some slight odd fetishes, but hey, where on the internet doesn't?

Just for interest, what tools of the trade do you use?

Hi guys, cheers for the friendly welcome :).

Ichneumon: Well, I have to admit that breakcore isn't my main priority in music. My first love is recording and production, mostly rock/alternative/metal stuff. I always got more of a thrill working with other people to get their stuff sounding as good as possible, rather than being in a band of my own (believe me, I've tried, but for some reason my personality always clashes with other people on that sort of creative level), so I relocated behind the mixing desk. So my main tool is Logic Pro 7.2, because I use it for recording other people, but for my own electronic stuff I've been erring towards Ableton Live and Reaktor recently, as their flexibility and speed works well with my incredibly short attention span :). I also use a Korg Electribe ESX-1 for break composition and the odd bassline, but I generally prefer to play basslines the old school way, with a bass guitar (how I originally got into music) pushed through a synth pedal and Izotope's Trash plugin. Makes for some fucking massive sounds.

Wow, sorry for the essay response to what I imagine was intended as quite an innocuous question! Too much wine, I should go to bed.

Hahaha, it's no trouble. It's always interesting to hear about how other people got into breakcore. I also came from a metal background, I was in a death metal band for 5 years that never got off the ground, plus the lead vocalist and songwriter was off his nut most of the time (like a death metal Syd Barrett). I digress. Once I get good enough a producing breakcore I think my stuff will always have a 'rock' type edge to it, it's just the background I came from.
