LOLO, let me suggest you to at least try Renoise.

Since you are here I guess you are interested in breakcore... well, Renoise is very flexible, I consider it as a weapon of choice for that kind of music.

The demo can do about 99.9% of what the paid version can.. it worth a try.

oh and the renoise liscence costs like 80$US and it's good for 10 versions of the software.

Plus there's tons of good (free) soft synths out there like Crystal (a favorite among many, or so I've heard), and Analog Warfare.

Audacity (also free) is useful with the Nyquist plug ins installed. good for twisting samples n' stuff. And it can have VST support (which is nice). It ain't fancy but it gets the job done.

EDIT: Oh, and for headphones...well...I can't really answer that one as it involves a lot of personal preference. Generally I've found that anything $50 plus is decent and will do the job. Sony makes good (really) higher end stuff, and I have a pair of JVC's that aren't too bad (little limited on the lows though, which sucks sometimes).
