Dblue Glitch

Postby BYTE-Smasher » Sat Jun 16, 2007 4:48 pm

Just thought I'd take a chance to spam a plugin of an online acquaintance of mine programs in his spare time. His name is Dblue and his plugin is called Glitch. Basically what Glitch does is gate IDMish effects in a sequence or randomly... basically, it's instant glitchiness!

Below is a screenshot:
Image

As you can see it consists of 9 different effects that you can sequence any way you like. Each effect has a randomize button so you can either tweak the effect the way you like, or you can randomize till it sounds good. This plugin does wonders on breakbeats, and if used properly, can even add life to plain synths by modulating them on subtle ways to give them more of an analog sound. It's by far one of the most versatile plugins in my collection, and best of all it's free! Check it out here: http://illformed.org/glitch/

I love using it when I do live shit, hook up the amount, and seed to an XY controller, and glitch my live set as/when needed....

when its used in production it sounds too..... forced.. just the same a rad plugin all in all!

Great plugin if you can control the glitch settings with knobs and sliders. :P

I personally tend to use it for things you wouldn't think of... like making ambiance sound especially gritty... if you tweak the settings so they alter the source subtly, you can get a skinny-puppy-esque disheveled sound that doesn't reek of glitch, but instead, makes synths and pads sound more organic than ever before.

... and that's just one use ;) ... it's not about how overused a tool is, it's about how many different ways you can use it in comparison to everyone else :)

It used to be donation ware, but then he just made it free once the current verison dropped. I think the next verison will be a pay verison with lots of new stuff.

This plugin is brilliant for glitchy, fucked up stuff but there is one serious problem with it...TOO (poorly) OVERUSED!
That is why I don't use it anymore... maybe on vocals sometimes but never on drums and I hate when people think that I have done my drum programming with that plugin...have used only in my second breakcore song...

The new version will be alot more modular than the current implementation.... basically, if what I understand is correct, you will be able to select as many different effect presets as you want to gate between.. so in theory you could flip between 10 different retrig settings in one instance of glitch if you want... he's also planning on adding more effects... but you didn't hear any of this from me ;)

...... and it will be pay btw :p
