They aren't scary, but they are dross. Here is a film that I actually think is quite scary:

Like, not scary as in boo hoo I've wet my manties scary, but the director has grasped that if you DON'T SHOW ANYTHING it's actually more scary than endless gore. I've seen so much tripe like Saw XVVIVIVX that I could actually decapitate someone myself and I wouldn't flinch, this plus the fact that I work in a Histology lab and see body parts on a daily basis.

amen, im sick of this wave of bollocks-gore-teen-slasher-horror shite.
i dont realy think horror does it for me but here is a list of films that personally scared the shit out of me:

the devils (ken russell film - you can see the unedited version for free on youtube)

threads

dr strangelove (you can also see this on youtube)

beyond treason - a doc about the use of depleted uranium in the middle east (look out for the photos of babies)

jacobs ladder

The Exorcist

the war game - not the 80's fim with the kid and computer playin tick tac toe.

1984 - the peter cushion version

notes on breakcore

Gavv (the cow)

ok i see a pattern emerging here, most of these are not horrors. but i hope this list helps some of you...

you can find a lot of these movies @ surfthechannel.com or quicksilverscreen.com

in the meantime if anybody can help me, ive been trying to find a copy of 'ghosts of the civil dead' if anyone can tell me where to find it or wether its achually any good, ive only seen a few clips but it looks pretty bowl-moving.

Aye, it's why directors such as Cronenberg and Lynch are the business.

im pretty sure The Devils could be considerd horror, its definatly horrific - it contains mass exorcisims (exepct nobody is achually possessed) and jesus gets a good raping. i recomend it like i recomend snares to my mum. seriously, its that amazing.

other than that;

I Don't Want To Be Born
the hitcher (NOT the remake version)
the blob
hellraiser
the fly
omen films
and yeah, anything by lynch is king.

probally obvious choises. these are really fun, amazing films to watch but for me they are just not that scary. horses for courses n all that.

does anybody remeber Critters?

Yes! I watched that when I was probably far too young and haven't got round to seeing it since. Torrent time, me thinks.
