I disagree.

Electronic music, and IDM, really got their start with Musique Concrete's Pierre Schaeffer and Elektronische Musik's Karlheinz Stockhausen.

Those early beginnings gave rise to Kraftwerk and The Art of Noise, two of the most frequently sampled groups and the often cited beginnings of modern electronic music.

German electronic music like Stockhausen's and Kraftwerk's was a big influence on early electronic music in Detroit and techno was born.

IDM, taking influences from the early innovators began developing around the same time as techno as a more experiemental use of the equipment.

An early IDM compilation called Artificial Intelligence even featured a track by an artist called "Up!" which was an alias for the well known Detroit techno producer Richie Hawtin. Also featured on the album are two tracks by Speedy J, another big name in the early Detroit techno scene and an artist on Richie Hawtin's Plus 8 label.

So, in my opinion, "the father of all experimental and noisy electronic styles" is not IDM at all. It is Musique Concrete and to an extent also Elektronische Musik.

I'm old.

I grew up listening to hardcore breakbeat.

Now I listen to breakcore.

Ironically, breakcore is not hardcore breakbeat.

The creation of music genres went something like this I think:
breakbeat => hardcore breakbeat => jungle => breakcore
Obviously this may not be entirely correct.

Vangelis > Mr Bungle > Breakcore

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers may or may not have played a significant role in the emergence of Breakcore.

Also, Primus is probably the foundation of drum and bass.

You see I knew all this stuff about Pierre Schaffer and whatnot, but as more modern breakcore/etc I thought that was pioneered primarily by Celine Dionne (the demos are live as fuck. Not the later sell-out shit.)

Bear in mind I learned all of this from my best friend's older brother (he's 15). I figure he's right because he's high school and they teach you that stuff there, right?
