best/favorite snares album?

Postby avisupchurch » Sat Oct 06, 2007 3:19 pm

I am curious about what everyone's favorite venetian snares album is. For me it is Winter in the Belly of a Snake (although i almost always skip the first track)

Honorable mention goes to the Winnipeg EP

.

printf("shiver in eternal darkness/n");

...but mostly due to the fact that it was put out on Isolate via the late great Wai Cheng.

i can remember Wai giving me the cd and telling me something to the effect of, this is the most insane beautiful music ever...it was 5:30am i had just played a crazy speedcore set, i get in the car and put in SHIVER, what the fuck is this shit?! it lasted about 10mins before i took out the CD.

i listened to it over and over again over the next year. i have always kind of been like what the fuck?! with V.Snares, people have treated him like a god...and i have always been kind of MEH! over the whole thing.

none of his tracks ever really seem to stick with me. the Winnipeg ep was cool, but thats cuz it was pretty a gabber ep.

i do like that dubstep black sabbath remix

This poll isn't really fair is is, I mean for a start it doesn't have Making Orange things, which was infact his best album. What about the Chocolate wheelchair album? damn all the ones you listed suck, Doll Doll Doll is ok.

I was going to include his whole discography but it would only let me list 10 options so I had to trim it down. I should have listed the Orange Things album but didn't just because it was a split, and similarly some EPs didn't make the cut... but Chocolate Wheelchair?? I dunno, you got Hand Throw which is undeniable but that's about it...

Meathole is my personal favorite although i dont think it is his best album tune or production wise. I just like the style of Meathole.
"Musica delenit bestiam feram"...

The only album of his I ever play with any regularity is Rossz but other than that I've never found any of his releases that impressive. Chocolate Wheelchair had its moments (I've never quite understood why a Canadian sampled the Coronation Street theme tune) but it always felt like it was lacking something. He in undeniably fantastic with his ability to mould breaks in the way he does but I think his tunes are far over-rated when considering the wealth of other talent out there.

orange things is possibly my fav actually - i voted shiver

chocolate... is possibly the most anthem-y - it totally should have been on the list - but theres just too many - really every snares album rocks in a diff way than the last so icouldn't have a true favorite anywway
