How do electronic musicians go about performing?
So one thing that always confused me was how electronic musicians (computer musicians) went about performing. what programs, what setup, what arrangement. It seems like a lot of time is put in to these works that people put out, I wonder how they get out the door tho.
First off, with vinyl two or more turntables and a midi controller. This is the way it has been done for decades.
Ableton, in the live view. You can also buy a midi for this but check in the options under midi to see a list of midi controllers and keyboards which are supported
Next tracktor, Pretty good software but a midi is required.
VDj, same story as tracktor only it looks diffrent.
And my personal fav. Serato. Its almost the same as using vinyl only you can digitaly load your tracks via laptop on to the special serato vinyl's.

abletons my favorite way to go, theres a lot of great internal effects and youll never run out of vst effects
right now im working with a novation sl 25 remote, great controller btw
the thing about playing live with a midi that makes it interesting is all the different ways you can intuitively set up your controllers, the possibilities are endless
i have like 5 full different sets of parameters mapped out in different saved files and i still dont know which one to stick with

tbh most of us just press play on winamp and then fuck around on forums so it looks like we're doing something. i like to catch up on various correspondences during this time, and also stalk hot chicks on facebook. i'm currently trying to figure out how to map common facebook functions to a midi controller.

In my opinion it can be quite boring to just play your own songs. I really enjoy to produce some new stuff or to simply rearrange my stuff on stage. My dancing style is like...selling nails, you know.
