i don't know about other cuntries.. but in the good ol' USA, if it aint on the radio... it aint Major.. and i'm not talking about internet radio or college stations.. or Jazz Stations. Media runs everything.. it needs safe, dumbed-down music that all the people can be pressured into enjoying. Just like TV... with some exceptions.
There will not be any major breakcore labels.... or any abstract genre, for that matter.
and it doesn't matter how big VSnares, or LadyScraper, or whoever is (big) to us.. it doesn't matter how many people who follow underground music like an artist.. it will never be mainstream.. and that's good, 'cause then, there would be a shit-load of producers that will write tracks as dictated by their company, rather than their heart.... and that's when everybody loses...
it's a vicious cycle.
Think of any band you really liked before it went mainstream... you stopped liking it, not because other people became aware of them.. it's because they were forced to compromise they way they wrote music... and in turn, losing their edge. the edge that we all loved.
