Distortion need help :)

Hello folks I was wondering if anyone have any experience with gated distortion effects, I'm trying to make an ''original'' intro for a hardstyle track I've been working on for ages, but somehow distortion doesn't aply all too well to gated saws and stuff. I't has a somewhat dull sound to it that's been virtually impossible to change...

I hope you have some advice!

a few things to point out before i get to the point: 1stly hardstyle is gay as fuck!! 2ndly there is a production forum where your meant to ask these questions, and lastly what DAW are you using to make your tracks with? and what plug in are you using to make ur saw sound? quite alot of plug ins have distortion already built into them so you dont need to use any effects, also if you have multi oscilators on your vst, try using a saw on osc1 and maybe a detuned pulse or square wave on osc2 to give it abit of a fuller sound, or if it only has the one osc, try routing your synth to a bus or send channel on your DAW effects and put the distortion on that rather than putting it directly on the synths own effects channel
