I Hate Breakcore

I live in prep fucking city. In an actual survey ( lie ) I took i am the only person out of 500 people who even listens to something that isn't rock/hip-hop/rnb/who the fuck cares. I've even tried to get people to like it! I try to start them off with something light and no to intense mabye something along the lines of I care because you do ( aphex twin).nope. ,"where is the guitar????" or , " what the fuck is this shit?" are things i get asked frequently. In 3 years ive managed to get one person to like electronic music, and even they fell to the dark ( light I guess) side all the way to fucking trance! Maybe it's the area, but I've given up fucking hope in converting people. Your turn.

I understand exactly how you feel though. I live in Kansas. It's all country, rap, or Nickelback here.

But that's what I use forums for. I can't find that common ground with people here so I find people elsewhere. It would be awesome to find someone here that's into the same stuff as me though.

It's fucking rap and wanna be thuggie suburban kids here. Or the other end of the spectrum in the form of ignorant hicks and "put a boot in your ass" country crap. Completely devoid of any sign of intelligence. I don't even bother trying to convert anyone. It really sucks. There's so much mind blowing music out there and no one within a hundred mile radius gives a shit. I really don't know why. Maybe we really do listen to music that sucks. lol

Being from the UK, I thought country was some sort of American in-joke and I was quite shocked a few years ago to find out that large portions of your country actually listen to it. Maybe we should do some country-core mashups! Someone did a Dolly Parton one a while back but I can't remember who.

But seriously, Nickleback are some kind of sick American joke, right? That new song makes me piss myself laughing!

I don't think its a joke, thats what worries me so much. Although, if i had a face like Chad Kroegers i think i'd have quite a lot to whinge about. Country-core would be most amusing - people should just do Hayseed Dixie tracks, that would make my fucking day.

Unfortunately, they're not a joke here. People seriously like them. And I assume you're referring to the Santana/Chad Kroger dance song? Yeah, that was bad. Just further confirms that the dude's in it solely for the money, because that (and anything else he's written) is not art.

Also country is big here also. What really drives me nuts about it is how old the music form is and how the only progression its made over the years is to become more "rockish" or "pop". I may not dig some of the alternative country out there, but I sure wish they would gain momentum and take over.

As for trying to get someone into electronic music. I think Aphex twin is a rough starting point for people. Sometimes you gotta start simple and then work them on down. Vocal dnb, popular break beat tracks, fat boy slim, cross over tracks from commercials are better starting points. I'm thinking of trying to start a club night around here in the future or just get dj gigs. The only way I can do that and stay sane around here is probably doing mashups, electro clash/trash, just to get some asses shaking in some what familar territory.

Personally, the country music I like is total old-school stuff. Also bluegrass. I find most alt-country blah and boring, just sounds like a watered-down version of the Eagles, and I HATE the Eagles with a vengance. Hank Williams, Patsy Montana, Roy Acuff, Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, George Jones w/ Tammy Wynette...some serious desperation and heartbreak going on there.

I think my least favorite style of music EVER is either nu-metal or newschool boyband rnb. I can't decide between the two. They're both horrible.

I remember my cousin playing me old school jungle/Drum and Bass and Rave back in the early 90's... i was only about 8 so i really hated it and i used to think that all electronic music was shit till about 3 years ago... I think that Aphex Twin and Squarepusher were probably the turning points, when i realised it does actually take talent to make electronic music (except for trance obviously).

I was thinking today why the hell I actualy started listening to electronic music, and I realized that it was partly because I had a formal music theory education and was exposed to classical music that has more complexity and merit in one measure than a whole rock or rap or whatever the hell it is. The other half of it is that I was gifted a prodigy Cd from a cousin who was ( is) interested in electronic music.Although I used to enjoy it alot I now think it is shit, but it triggered something and soon after I found an AFX cd and then an orbital CD and then aphex twins more junglist stuff came into play and the progression continued till 2003 when i started listening to Jason forrest's show on WFMU. I realized that it took a long time for me to love music that is so intense and frantic and that trying to bring someone even into a simple electronic track that has something besides a 4/4 beat ( trance beat ).

So my new plan is to give everyone who is age 9 in the US electronic music to listen to.
