Woa the topic got pretty big.. hmm thx for the link to the list on I hate breakcore..

and yeah.. wikipedia.. I think i'll take the evening to read a crapload of stuff on wikipedia.. thx

and here is my opinion on genres, to me, they have 2 utilities.. first, well like when you try to describe a music to someone, the genres give some vocabulary to help you.. and with examples, genres and how the music feel, you can give a pretty good idea of what the music is like, even if the genres you used to describe what you are talking about aren't accurate or anything.. it can help..

the second use would be only to have fun.. nothing serious.. like when people make up false genres such as folkcore polka downtempo space rock.

besides that, I think the only thing important in music is our appreciation of it.. of course it differs from listeners to listeners.. but its mostly what is important.. is it good? if yes, Idc what genre it is.. I'll just listen to it... Is it bad? if yes, Idc what genre it is... it is bad anyway.

I class everyting that is "dance music" as electronic or techno depending on the mood i'm in, but i think there are a few main genres that all the sub genres can fit into.

Electronic/Techno
Metal/Rock/Punk
Popular

To be honest i think the whole genre thing is a bit of Joke for example i cant be arsed with genres like Splittercore i mean wtf is it really its just electronic ????

i like what i like end of .....you know what i mean?

Here is my opinion on sub-genres of "electronic music": they exist because of an insecurity in the people that define them (the artists). As we all know, deep down, that the music we make is bollocks. Really: a useless pile of inconsequential crap. Beep bleep squonk. So they invent these ridiculous labels to facade credibility and engineer distinction when in reality it's just-like-that-other-shit-you-heard-on-mtv-but-with-more-snares-and-squonks.

It's all rather like the multitude of "metal" subgenres. Again, another pointless form of music.

,etals different, from dancey sub and micro genres i went on about in me last post, metal sub genres are started not as much musically, but song subjects.
black being satanic, street punk being about, well the streets. ETC.

doom metal.. hair metal.. power metal.. speed metal.. thrash metal, I could go on.

Ok, I see what you're saying.

But let's face facts: Metal is just a bunch of big-haired, tiny-cocked skinny poseurs in leather masturbating a detuned fretboard for 60 minutes without a climax.

NEXT.

Woah, someones got metal issues, I think nowadays Genres are being made up like labels just to be different.
I mean, if someone makes an abstract techno tune, that sounds a bit different to the rest, he calls it ie; "frenchCore" (pfft...snigger..).
I hope that kinda makes sense.
