I think it's the hardest style to spin well because there are no rules. Baseck has to be one of the best as far as just mashing that shit together and making something completely different out of it. That's one style. But then you have Mark N who does the whole nine yards, including beatmatching and making smooth mixes. It's all about figuring out what your style is, selecting the right records and just going for it. It sure as hell isn't like techno or house where every record is in the same bpm range and you just beatmatch and eq. It's experimental music and deserves some experimental mixing.

You really have to know your records well, which is something I'm always trying to get better at. Probably because I buy too many. It might help to go through all of your records and pick one single track off each one that you want to focus on. BPM it, maybe mark a few interesting spots on it. Then just practice messing around with those tracks, back to back, over and over until you start to find a few groups of records that string together well.

I find that lots of cutting back and forth works well, let those bursts of amens play off one another and just switch over to the next record when the time is right. I don't have a lot of breakcore records that I can layer and make it sound decent, so I tend to go for the abrupt approach and fast mixes.

I guess we have one advantage because our shit already sounds like "shoes in a dryer" so a few fuck ups won't be the end of the world. :lol:

If like me, you cant beatmatch for shit or find records that go well together, then you may find this useful:
i sometimes like to add a distortion effect between the mixer and the speakers so the whole mix is awash with overdrive. i find it helps blend in two tracks that wouldnt normally fit.
if you really crank up on the gain then wank lots on the crossfader, you can get some crazy scynopated shit goin on. It not exactly mixmaster mike, but its fun and i think that is what djing is about...i think.

you could get cdjs. pioneer is a great brand.

hmm ya I remember messing with these in a shop..

I think I'll try with renoise.. (not for beatmatching but to compose stuff while your track is playing) What I would need is two outputs.. each output is a send track.. and then.. to "mix" all you have to do is to send stuff from 1 send track to another.. or use the mixer itself. That would be nice..
