Mixing Breakcore

Postby aize » Sat Sep 06, 2008 2:30 pm

So, talking about vinyl mixing here, this shit is Hard! So any tips, other than the obvious cos i can already mix jungle etc. Some tunes though are just unmixable in the beatmatching sense. So what do other people do? Just drop them or what?

yeh, u jst gotta know ur records and have an ear for sound i guess.. make them fit anyway poss, really dont just try n beat match everything like a techno record... cut, juggle, chop, even stop/start n drop yknow.. just make em fit.. obviously same/similar speeds is handy tho haha ;)

1 st of all i'd do whatever you feel comes naturally n try not to copy anyones style, do your own thing .....................

What i do when getting a mix together is have a pen and paper by my decks (memory like a bucket with a hole in) then write down the tunes that go together well, put them into an order i think works, record it, listen to the mix, note the bad parts, make changes, repeat until your satisfied.

All of the above i only do if i wanna record a mix properly, usually jus have a bout a 2-3 hr session mixing to find out what tunes go together

The most important thing is practise, practise, practise!

hahaha..... I love beatmatchin breakcore!! but what you do is grab a stack of records. doesnt matter which ones cause if you go into it premeditated it wont work. get really stoned and just do it. it'll work out. and if shit starts getting funky pretend you know how to scratch and use that crossfader like a bitch in heat with a master card.

all you gotta do.

mixing is pretty easy when you have good various taste and you know the music by heart. you can mix 2 tracks (or more ;) ) which have common or even same samples (beats, voices etc...).
My personal opinion is that mixing breakcore on the same bpm and beatmatching perfectly is muuuuuch more boring than cutting 1 track into 3 and playing it along with 2 other tracks between its parts.

as someone said somewhere else in the forum - it's all about FUN and CREATIVITY.

being serious is not a "breakcore" thing :P :!:

if you can't mix a song you can always do that one lazy trick where you take the song that is playing and rewind it then fade to the song you have cued.

bam!
