Best US Breakcore Scene?

What US city would say has the best breakcore scene, and why?

I am thinking about moving out of Maine... again... finally. I want to pack up a suitcase full of gear, and clothing, and setting up somewhere else sometime around tax season...

I would like to know where the best place to go is. Think of it as a contest where the prize is me moving next door to you... yeah kinda lame

I'd say either NYC or someplace on the west coast. We have just about everything down here in GA cept breakcore parties. I'm trying to change it and got some friends who are planning on doing some stuff next year. At the moment they are talking about getting doormouse up for a show and otto von shirach sometime too.

We just had richard devine out DJing and he played a bunch of banging minimal techno, which by the end of his set he had ramped up to 250+ bpms. He also does a bunch of his crazy experimental IDM sets here from time to time and they are awesome too. I'm hoping Larvae will do some shows soon, since they just popped out a new album(out on adnoism).

About the closest thing to a breakcore show around here is laptop battle which usually brings out all the bedroom/indie guys to unleash some havok. I'm also starting to notice a lot of IDM shows here lately with lots of upcoming locals.

Honestly... I love those kinds of shows too... And I love making fun of crusty punks (especially cause I used to be one... i mean im still gross, and dirty.... but not a crusty)

Yeah, I hear Europe is a much better scene. I live right outside NYC and aside from Barcore and the occasional tour coming through, there's really not much bcore to be had around here. Plenty of fucking dubstep monthlies if you're into that shit... used to be a lot more bcore going on a few years ago, but it's died down a lot. Or maybe I'm just too old in bcore years and not going out as much? I dunno.

pretty decent scene here in portland, there is a breakcore weekly every tuesday, and usually one weekend of the month there is some sort of breakcore/gabber show,renegade,basement type thing going on, and recently there has been a fair amount of dubstep/bcore shows.the turn outs at events tho are very hit and miss, we have had a few shows over the years with a hundred or so people, some shows 5 people show up, some 50 you never know what to expect.

it seems breakcore cant do well on its own here. not many wanna come out for an all breakcore show, gotta mix it up. and book some hardcore,dubstep,psytrance and dnb and people get more excited about it.

Yeah The other Portland was where I was actually looking at. I know a bunch of peeps out there. And I've heard its got a good scene... or at least a promising one.

yah ROK pretty much summed NYC's "breakcore scene" up for yall...

not trying to like hype us up [or break my arm patting myself on the back] or anything, but it's still pretty niche over here...

we've been working pretty hard actually to get a lot more people [who aren't even remotely aware that things like drum n bass, dubstep, etc., let alone breakcore even exist] into our events, but it's nothing in comparison to other bigger types of music, like hip hop, rock, etc...

we're still pretty much a smaller type of event/scene, compared to other things that happen in NYC [with other music] and in Europe [compared to some of the bigger events and fests that happen, that include a bunch of people that have played for us too], but i've definitely noticed a bit more that more and more people, seem to become informed, if not about "breakcore" per say. they actually do know about a lot of the "bigger" artists [i.e. vsnares, aaron spectre, enduser, bong-ra, etc.] and later learn about them belonging to this specific genre...

but you also gotta remember, most of these people, are people who are, for lack of better term "plugged in" to what's happening online, in entertainment, in the world, in music, in technology, how ever you want to look at it. so while those numbers are growing, it's still a tiny fraction of what i've seen show up at some bigger club/rave events for the same old headliners, with the same old local DJ's, or even the same old "big UK headliners" that seem to play here all the time, charging the same old ridiculous door price, that people will pay...

although, this is not to say it's all bad. we've been actually talking with some other promoters [of bigger and smaller scenes outside of breakcore] and there might be some interesting plans for the future here in NYC. i can't really talk about them, but if people keep showing us the support they have and it keeps growing, hell...we could get some serious big things happening here and bringing people over here, who have never played in NYC and I'm pretty sure most of you and who ever else comes out, would really love to see play live...

yeah it sucks in Boston right now. In Wisconsin, there's stuff every once in a while. Schizophrenia 3 was awesome, but shows like that are few and far between. the Milwaukee scene was once pretty hot, but since Addict isnt really putting anything out lately, its pretty much dead now.

I'm going to see two shows in NYC this week that should be pretty awesome, the Vsnares and Otto show and the Barcore show with drumcorps, delta 9 and dev/null. those should be cool. I'm moving to NYC in May or June, so hopefully my social life will improve then.
