Has Breakcore been affected by the recession?*

Postby Tekno-Bitchfuker » Tue Jan 20, 2009 8:24 pm

I swear it has taken a nosedive straight into my pissy cunt.

Well in the UK anyway.

Last time i went out there wasn't even half the amount of people there than the previous year. Not only that but the style has changed considerably. It used to be well more kicking/gabba-orientated/Rave your fuckin eyelids off than it has become. It'sd like they're just in this big fat noise off.

Obviously there are artists who are exceptions to this and do make a variety i.e...DDD, Ebola, Ladyscraper, Rotator etc but a few of the other artists have kinda stopped making tracks like that.

I'm not complaining as such because i still love hard noise & experimental music but i would love to see a bit more FULL-PELT KICK YOU IN THE TEETH Breakcore being made!...If you know what I mean?

Discuss. :)

Well we don't really have a "scene" for it in my area....cept for me DJing it out from time to time. So I can't really say anything about the shift in music styles at shows. I've noticed some releases have slowed a bit, but still seeing a wide variety of stuff coming out. For example all the crazyness coming out of cockrockdisco.

As for the recession(maybe depression here). It has an effect on how many records I can buy. Lately all my funds have been going to bills and fixing up the new place. I got a looooong list of stuff I'm still wanting to buy up sometime. Plus I got some upcoming software upgrades and gear I want to get.

Yeh the amount of tunes i can buy has gone waaaaaaaaay down. I feel sick!

But, I have other priorities at the minute.

The last few times i went out it was either too experimental or a bit too lacking in oomph electronica.

On the releases too.

Yeh cockrockdisco is a big exception.

It also looks as If there is les on toolbox these days (exception for this week, whith the new Krumble and Mainstream records)
So there is not mutch mony for the Smal labels whith a smal budget of say.....2000.E.
And lets face it...even the artist that are realy good (FFF, Meldroit, Kirdec, Epsilon and Rioteer) are not swimming in mony and driving in big cars.
The only 1s that can live from his music wil be Vsnares, Drumcorps and DuranDuranDuran.
So even artist that are good, wil waith before bringing outh a new record. Thats becouse jou only use mony jou can mis.
If it is the resesion or not, I cant mis a 2000.E
On the bricht side, I dont think there wil be les partys. Crackbeats wil be soon back.
Also soon, there wil be a Very BIG Breakcore party in Tilburg. (not talking about ZXZW)

seems we're still raving our eyelids off in nyc. not always to breakcore, but there's still kicks. there's also a pretty active noise & experimental scene here these days, but the two scenes tend to not overlap at events... but... our breakcore scene pretty much died 4 or 5 years ago, when a bunch of area heavies moved to europe or elsewhere (leaving us all to rot over here ;) ). barcore does a pretty good job of exhuming it every few months, but i remember a time when it felt like something was happening every weekend.... hopefully it will happen again

I don't know if Sweden has been affected, but I guess that we will see alot more angry tunes soon since people will be loosing their jobs in a couple of months (and thus have more time for tunes)

this is why most people move to berlin because its so cheap.. so far the exports that live there are jason forrest, aaron spectre, duranX3, time exile, chris clarke, sam voltek, electric kettle.. its a really nice little community too..

im struggling a bit atm as i live off just my gig fees but have been managing to get sound design work and writing some scores which tbh is what iv always wanted to do so thats been helping.. iv been thinking about going to berlin for a while too though.

i do think people in (break)core are being affected by the recession, in more than one way. people are being affected by a number of circumstances outside of the recession also i think

I've been wanting to move to Berlin for ages. The more people who go there just make me want to jump ship. The UK has been taking a nosedive for ages.

I don't think you can actively make money from the scene unlesse you're a big artist but even they will start to see a decline in sales as everyone tightens their belts.

I do want to go to a Barcode tho. Those parties look feckin' SWEET! 8)

the trend with music has always been the current state of the world affecting the kind of music coming out. so when the world is angry and down and out, a lot of music starts being that way.
