Got into PC music with a game creation system called ZZT, programming monophonic notes one by one for PC speaker. Then got into tracking via Megazeux, another GCS that was a step up from ZZT. Got a copy of Impulse Tracker, got into The Future Crew and The Solid Energy Crew, and then sent $17 in an envelope to Sweden in 1998 for my copy of "Dreams," this NRG CD that The Solid Energy Crew (later Lagoona) made. (Website here: http://andreasviklund.com/music/tsec/) I was totally amazed, just learning piano and recognizing OMG CLASSICAL MUSIC AND TECHNO CAN GO TOGETHER. It was a few steps from there to the Hackers soundtrack (along with the "inspired by" 2 and 3 OSTs), and the rest of it is history.
Got into glitch through Prefuse 73 and breakcore through Venetian Snares. Saw both of them play sets at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC earlier this year and was hooked.
This community is fucking awesome. Looking forward to learning!
