Playing live
Yo, so I got asked to MAYBE play a live set, nothing huge really just a little gig. The thing is, i'm using Fruity Loops (yes, i know...) and that's sort off impossible to play live with i guess. What would your choice be to play live breakcore? I'm slowly learning Ableton cus i've heard its pretty good for playing live.

Straight up yo.
Haha, well I actually find Ableton hard to understand. I'm so used too FL now so i can't really settle for something new, i'm trying but ye, sort of failing big time ^^

I'm in a similar situation to you having a first gig... but I don't even have a laptop so I'm borrowing a friend's and probably just going to play a premade 30min .wav in Windows Media Player. But I'll make sure to add live synths and wear something sexy(?) to make up for it.

yeah, as long as you have something on your screen that people arent going to understand, you can pretty much get away with just playing something prerecorded, especially if the audience hasnt heard it yet.
(pst, vsnares does this)

I play live with FL, but not with live mode (that would make too much sense)
Obv you can't do this for your gig but get a midi controller if you wanna do anything live, mouse/trackpad are pretty hopeless. I just link anything i want to be able to tweak on the fly like filters, retriggers, reverse, bitcrush etc and freak out on the knobs. you can do all the same shit with a mouse, it's just not as agile as having a bank of knobs. also i mostly just mess with the drums, my master usually just has a few filters for epic sweeps.
for switching between songs i have 2 fl windows open, and preload the next song so i can kinda mix between them (no beatmatching), or you can do the awkward pause thing while the next song loads.
personally, faking it doesn't even make sense to me, just put on a damn album. playing live is way more fun anyways.
i played a few gigs in your situation, and just made the best of it, switching effects on/off doing filter tweaking.

hahahahahahahahaha
I did a live show last night. I prepared all of my shit beforehand and just played it in audacity. I had renoise opened up on top of it and just acted like I was doing shit. People fuckin loved it! Big boost to confidence haha.
And yeah I know its kinda cheating.

ableton+mpd24+mic+guitar
ableton makes it pretty easy to mix and match yer stuff on the fly without just waiting out time cuz theres so much to tweak
glitch is really fun to use live as well
i think i got more laughs than anything else
+++++i got some pretty fine chicks to digg the music
unfortunately now i know they probably have deep seated emotional problems

i prefer always to play with cd players and one or two kaoss pads (or built in kaoss pad in korg mixer YEAAAH !)... if you know how to handle all the buttons and u know the music by heart u can be as good as if u mix it with a SW. though i've done couple of sets by 2 or 3 winamps with pacemaker plugin for pitch control (VERY BIG FUN)
still havent tried the ableton stuff
