I Hate Breakcore

ive been in the promoting game for 4 years runnin unjust and doing shows all over the bloody place and ive met some really, truly fantastic people, but why does the breakcore scene have so many try hard 'cool' kids and know it alls?

again the night i run started out as a dnb night, and yes there were a few knobs here and there (mainly chavs) but there seems to be a lot of emo type characters creeping into breakcore from what i see on nights out, what is it about our beloved shitcore that attracts them?

Aye the trucker cap emo thing cropped up in Breakcore a while back, if you think it's bad here you should go along to Dubstep nights ha. It looks like spillover from the dying embers of nu-rave; a handful of them stumbled across an electronic music scene that wasn't single handedly created and dictated by NME (Breakcore actually has an independant spirit with no single center of activity, nor crappy trendy comic to tell us what and what not to wear). There's always trend hoppers who latch on to whatever is supposed to be "subversive" at the time, these alt wannabes don't usually stick around in any one scene for more than a year, bet you a tenner within 12 months they've hopped on to the next cool thing.

I saw it back in my hometown back when I was in my teens, there was one pub where all the rock bands played and me and my mates used to go along, it could fill in well over a hundred people on Friday nights, mostly kids in angsty Emo uniforms. By my second year of college (I hit about 18 years of age) the pub was desolate, and still is for the most part, there was me and a few regulars who still went along to support some of the local bands who were doing interesting stuff, but by this point the indie/post punk revival was in full swing and everyone was donning suit jackets and listening to the fucking Bravey and the Killers. Those who hadn't gone indie had stuck to their jeans-around-ankles screamo-x~core but couldn't give a shit about the local emo bands because Kerrang didn't say they were fashionable.

Don't want to get too brutal at the same time though, in my teens I had the baggy jeans, guess I was a greebo or a mosher or a rocker or whatever, although I in my infinite wisdom was already exposed to loads of types of music, never understood how anyone who is truly in to music can only listen to one narrow genre and dress in one scene's uniform. I love the 40-somethings who still wear black hoodies with skulls and wolves on them, or metal band logos that cannot possibly be deciphered. Still, even if these cool cats are turning up to your Breakcore night I suppose it's door admission, and if they're enjoying themselves then that can only be a good thing. Win win like, we wouldn't want to get too spiteful.

id like to hope everyone in breakcore tries hard

but yeh, true scenesters suck.. alot remind me of the Nathan Barley club scene.. although they come in many shapes n sizes, not just daft clothes.. i know alot of genuine lovers in cyber clobber n that jive... hahaha tune name right there... 'genuine lovers in cyber clobber'

id have patience with the crossover people though, of 10 there could be one 1 true enthusiast in or to come from them... its easy to become very defensive of something you work so hard for though and i do it alot... u just have to shrug or laugh or whatever...

it was only last weekend when i had some girl (it seems to be mostly girls, im sorry) trying to tell me what gabber/breakcore/hardcore was and i knew fuck all... it was enraging but hilarious at the same time

u just gotta let em get on with it and get on with it yourself..

and agreed, there will be one who genuinely loves it, im all up for people joinin in, otherwise things will never grow, but the attitudes of these kids is soul destroying

As if some of these youths claim to know and love Dubstep yet not actually know what Dub is. That summed it up for me pretty much.

i think dubstep as a music has a great amount of potential to grow and can be fantastic.. the standard rythm alone holds so many different ways to take it.. its just the majority of it is awful (like most music genres), the majority of the artists act worse than semi-big dnb djs and the whole hype around it is annoying... but like i said, as a music it could be so much and only a Jeremy Beadle sized handful amount of people have grown and done something great with it...

ahhhhh, we were all young once!! I remeber chewin peoples ear off thinkin i was the dogs! we learn from these experiences and hopefully turn out not to be twats (well im sure thats what happened for most of us anyways) but theres always gonna be those sort out there who have stayed that way n if they are there fuck it they've paid and likin it who gives a fuck, as long as they're not proper knobheads who come to cause trouble then its all good.

aye agreed again sir, people like reso and high rankin have made sum dutty arse tracks, but theres so much crap out there like benga and coki and skream etc.

same with breakcore and any form of music to be fair, thers always genius tracks and shite tracks

actually I think breakcore seems to have taken on this kind of aesthetic that scenesters probably find appealling. you all know what i mean, the bright colours and general suspcious friendliness (the cock rock disco website is just one example)

also the dress code... if im honest i dont think its too different to the whole screamo thing either... did you see what ebola was wearing at glade? (again this is just one example lol) not saying that he is some kind of scene kid or anything, i just think there are some coincidental similarities.

either way though, they'll get bored and move on. the whole screamo thing hijacked death metal a few years ago, i dont know anything about the death metal scene these days but my friend tells me the scene kids all got bored and moved on...
