yeah thats true, its funny actually I don't really associate dubstep with dub at all...dub (assuming we're talking like jah shaka etc) has a very organic sound despite the thunderous bass... dubstep is more synthetic/artificial, far more akin to drum & bass IMO.

and then you get dickheads referring to dubstep as 'dub' ARGHGHG THEYRE NOT THE SAME AT ALL.

and yeah that "ragga-dubstep" really REALLY annoys me. its just the most predictable thing ever. "oh lets take that FINALLY THE HERB COME AROUND vocal and stick a wob wob wob under it and RAAAA PUUURREE FILLTHH GRIMMMEEY TUNE INIT"

I love ragga jungle, but ragga dubstep can fuck right off.

Not sure what constitutes Ragga dubstep, I don't mind stuff if it has vocal tracks layered over. What I do love is The Bug, he always has guest MCs (Daddy Freddy, Toastie Taylor etc) although The Bug's stuff is more akin to the old 2-kick 1-snare Dancehall sound, but with that obvious Techno Animal esque industrial edge.

interesting, drum n bass has been basically the same thing for more than 10 years. BOOM PSSH CHUCKACHUCKABOOMPSSH
but at the same time it evolved, twisted, it's got trends, subgenres and whatnot. everyone in the dubstep scene was bragging about "aaahh noo dubstep shall never meet the fate dnb has met" meaning that dnb is stale and boring. it's a lot less stale than breakcore, mh? it's cutting edge, it's always been on the forefront of music production technology.

but at the same time house music, while having a very high production quality, is pretty boring. every few years we have a new synth preset everyone wants to use, and then it's called a subgenre. THAT's stale.

problem with breakcore is, when you make every song sound the same and for fucks sake don't pay attention to basic components of music like melodies that stick in you head instead of doing the same "200BPM+"funny" sample"-fuckery there won't be no bangers. maybe it's time to step back a little instead of pushing everything to maximum value.

using an amen wouldnt hurt so hard if it weren't the most interesting thing happening in the whole tune. hell, venetian snares' "rossz" appeals not only because listening to "contemptionary classical" feels even better than sipping wine but also because the songs are about melody, emotion and moods. While "digital darkness" by somatic responses... well its still hard to remember the track names since all of them dont stick to your head.

i should better start producing stuff that isn't embarassing instead of rambling about how to do it better :roll:

i think indeed breakcore lacks a scene. but why is that? i mean, breakcore is full of punk-attitude and i can't imagine young fucked-up teens not liking it. in fact, when i gave belladonnakillz' first album to a few friends it spread like a virus and songs like "tribute 2 drugz" or "kill bella donna" even get played at "regular" parties in "regular" clubs. ppl love it, ppl loved atari teenage riot (let's face it, they did gabberkick/amen-fuckery and screamed on top of it. it's breakcore enough). Because the tunes stick to your head, mabye because they're catchy, or you can relate to their political message or they're just great to party to.

Instead of pondering what new break to use the same way i used the other 200 breaks in the songs before, or trying to double the amount of different breaks in every 10 seconds of a tune just... Go somewhere, grab your laptop and speakers, get a friend to sing along and shout to it, party hard. People will love it! (....err.... i guess...)

A prime example of Breakcore's evolution, in fact it's barely Breakcore perhaps, but kicks unlimited ass nonetheless.

ahhh,,, who cares? this is "breakcore".... it's an appropriation based meta-genre... if producers have to go experiment with other paradigms, who gives a shit? some will burn out, some will find a way to hang on, but this sort of experimentation seems natural to me... you purists make me laugh... yeah dubstep is kinda boring, but there may be something really worthwhile to absorb and use from it... i've been exploring the realm of bassline house recently in my spare time, and i've found lots of ideas and techniques to use in my "breakcore" productions... to good effect, i think... it might boil down to what was said before in this thread... if you gotta fucking problem with the way things are going, YOU should go and solve it... no need to hate on people for following their own paths... you can't change what draws the crowds... you can only (and should?) observe what "works", absorb, innovate, and entice audiences into your own corner... figure it out... fuckhead!

ps.i am listening to the "superbowl suffle" right now, so my reasoning may be impared

Rokhausen, props on the post. Dubstep and bassline house, while way to boring for me to produce, have some really awesome elements to use in music which has a more chaotic, less linear style of composition. I love going into bassline house/hardcore sections in a song.
