fun with hybrid genres (build your own!)

Postby cuttingagent » Wed Nov 25, 2009 2:20 pm

hmmm... i was just thinking... it's only a matter of time before some obscure crew starts popularizing a hybrid of dubstep and happy hardcore. it will be really obscure for a few years and will exist outside of the 'rave' scene, there won't be a lot of girls at the parties, and people won't be really fuckin high at them either. someone will affix some hybrid genre title to it, and people will claim it's a 'new' style of music. some 5 producers in holland will turn into thousands of bedroom producers, it will be at every rave and we'll be able to enjoy it while sucking back whippits and drinking a 3 dollar bottle of water. then, it will be heard on some scion commercial in the background, and then some jerk will give the rights to have it included in the soundtrack to disney's next cgi kiddy flick, and then we'll all say, "happyfagstepcore is dead!" and we'll all be on a forum dedicated to that style, bitching about it.

anyway, when that happens, i'd like to be one of the 'originals' that helped propel it forward into the farce it will later become, i mean, after starting as a farce, then being taken seriously, then being a farce again, but not in a good way like before.

I've done skinhead dubstep, which basically consists of Dubstep with loads of reggae shuffle and Symarip/Laural Aitken samples.

Sodomstep is also mine

I once thought of doing something similar, but it wouldn't really happy hardcore and dubstep insomuch as it would be oldskool rave and dubstep.

I've rocking "funky breakcore" for a while, but I don't know if adding a description onto a genre should count as a new genre, or even a sub-genre really.

funky house
dark jungle
hard techno
hard house
funky breaks

etc.

silliness.

Can I have "softcore"?
Also, maybe Jiffypopcore. It's kind of just a bunch of heavy snares going off at random for 2-5 minutes, followed by the smell of burnt popcorn.

How about break drone synth?

Like drone metal, a shit ton of distortion and deeply layered noise, but with synths. And breakbeats.
