what are analogue desks?

after all of alec's talk of breakcore not breakcore and a few comments as to the use of these i would very much like to know what they are
what are they used for?
how are they used?
are they a feasible attainment for poor underground producer?
what are they used for?

If you find mixing board it's just cause it's exactly that hehehe.
In fact I work every week with big analog mixing board and that definitly sound much more powerfull and warm than something made in a software.
I still use only software to produce music but if someday if have the time at school I will do some analog recording of my track.
After all these topic on "breakcore becoming boring" and "that true breakcore and that not " I just want to say ... EVERYBODY HAVE TO DO WHAT HE WANT WITH WHAT HE WANT !!!!

so to use one would you essentially route different parts of your track to different channels on the mixer and just master the track from there?
if you can tell i really have no experience with analog mixers at all and wanted to know how theyre used haha

The setup of a proffesional studio can be realy different. If I start to do some mix and mastering at my school I have to do like you say : bring my soundcard, route separate track in the mixer and use the good old preamp and eq of the desk. I will try to use some analog compressor and delay too (we have a INCREDIBLE old Roland tape delay at school hehehe).
Like Alec said, analog gear produce a realy musical distortion and it make a big difference with digital sofware and mixer.

This afternoon I have record a lot of gabber kick with simple bass drum passed trought my Nano Metal Muff (it's a distorsion pedal) and the result is just INCRDIBLE !!!!
I have try on some Acid basseline too and I strongly recommand to everybody who have a external soundcard with multiple ouptut and a distorsion pedal to try this (if it's not already done hehehe) cause it can realy turn a vst synth sound into a fuckin'growly "analog-like" sound.
If you have all the shit to do that but that you don't know how to do I can make a tutorial.
