Alec Empire Talks To NTR About Origins Of Breakcore!
Moderators: PEPCORE, SweetPeaPod, BreakforceOne, JohnMerrik
I have one or two little queries with wat alec has said:
1. He mentioned that the 4/4 bass drum has no place in breakcore yet in the interview he said that the Bloody Fist guys were doing almost the same at almost the same time and alot of stuff that i know from bloody fist is 4 to floor!
2. Where does Xanopticon fit into your version of breakcore? As far as i know he started out performing with FL 4. There is even rumors that the liminal space album was made with FL4( i dont know how true it is but it wud be nice to think it was true).
I guess my point is that since everyone has a computer nowadays that software like ableton...etc is a fuckin awesome way for someone( i mainly mean me) who knows nothing about music or sound production to start to get their head around tryin to emulate artists that they look up to like yourself and venetian snares and wat not! FL studio helped me realise i have no talent and shud get a real job( so now im tryin to be a pro gamer
, but thankfully i have talent in that area). But i definatly agree that if your gonna do this shit for real then u need to get analogue equipement, not just for the fact that the sound is alot better but also seein someone perform with a mental setup of little knobs switchs and cables is alot more exciting than watchin the same guy piss about on his laptop. I beat half the time these guys just come out press play and spend an hour on facebook tellin people how mush they are gettin paid to talk on facebook!

i think we should distinguish between
- "breakcore" as in "that fucked up tune with breakbeats", which can be virtually any kind of music in my opinion. i simply dont care what kind of gear the producer uses, how many people produced the song or what drugs they consumed in the process. what matters is if the tune blows or not.
problem is, i havent heard any new "breakcore" tune in the last 9 months (apart from blaerg's album) that blows. all my favourite releases are from '92 to 07... dont know why but i guess it's all dubstep's fault (established producers switching styles and turning their backs on the fans)
- and "breakcore" as in "that show i went 5 nights ago which is the reason why i am still in hospital and which was totally MAD"
you know, still-standing knob-twiddling guys fucking around with their laptops isn't mad. at least not when you're moshing and circlepitting and jumping around, happily smashing your fists in your best friends' faces. when i go to a hardcore punk show and the band plays killer songs but lacks stage presence i just leave or wait for the next band to play. the same goes for electronic music.
of course going to a club listening to a dj is a whole different matter but i never ever had the opportunity to dance to a breakcore-mix in a club
oh, and alec posting here is actually some kind of premature xmas present for me! dont wanna sound fanboyish, but your music not only got me hooked on hardcore punk, harsh noise and jungle but also made me meet the girl i love since i was 14 (wouldnt sound so special if anyone found out i am only 17...)
EDIT/SUMMARY: it's not about what gear you use to produce the track IMO, it's about what gear (and stage-presence) you use to do it in front of an audience.

Breakcore is not the reason u end up in hospitals, its cos your mates keep kickin your ass at parties lol!
Dunno bout anyone else but i hate this type of shit at parties, people bein retarded and hittin each other is dumb! Best parties are the ones where evryone is chill and havin a good time, gettin roundy but not actually hittin each other!

depends on the music... when i'm at a dnb-match (national drum n bass league fuck yeah) it's the people dancing and cheering and having fun together. when i'm chilling to a soundsystem or reggae party it's sitting around with a spliff or just bouncing to the rhythm.
but when i go to hardcore gigs i feel like jumping around and raving mad. its not that i aim for faces but i dont complain when i take a hit. of course i hate those "violent dancing"-douches acting ninja and kicking your face, but imagine a crowd dancing peaceful and chilled out to drumcorps

Get violent if necessary, get really fucking violent if you need to, do whatever it takes just don't go getting nasty with people who don't want to take part in the moshing. But yeah an energetic stage presence is always a good thing, which is why i'm gonna start incorporating a lot more in to my live sets once i've got my new laptop and midi controller, hopefully get myself a replacement megaphone, guitar, some stupid fucking clothes and a bloody nose or two.
It's time to get GG Allin on yo ass.

Wow, most interesting thread I've seen on here in... ever. Without all the stupid "look at me I'm an attention whore" posts, of course. Oh, that's right, breakcore means we have to act like we're 12 years old.
SHIT PISS FART FTW LOLOMG

Dutch is a great language! It's funny because upon first glance it sounds like English, the pitch changes and everything seem identical, often if I hear dutch being spoken in the background I mistake it for English until I listen a little closer, then I start picking out all the "Jurdie Gurdie Habber Habber Hollaynd" talk, and it becomes instantly obvious that the netherlandish are on my trail. I have to act fast at this point.
I prefer Dutch to the German language, and despite it's bad reputation (amongst the English any way, surprise surprise) I think French is a very poetic language.
Tuvan wins though, look at them go:

Aye that's Kazakh, there is some throat singing in there for sure, it's quite traditional across many of the Turkic and Oriental cultures, with styles spreading as far east as some of the Inuit/native peoples of Americas.
