How the f*ck do you afford your gear?

Postby nethiros » Sun Dec 27, 2009 1:09 am

now that i'll buy my launchpad im thinking of getting more essential stuff like monitors, studio headphones, a mixer and 2 cd-decks and all that stuff before buying additional midi-gear or gadgets like kaoss pads...

but then i realized that it would be about 1000 euros if i'd get the shittiest basic stuff out there, WHAT THE!?

i mean i'll get a job but since i can only work after school and plan to continue having a social life now that i've moved to another city... that won't be much cash.

so how do you do it, and how long did it take til you had everything you think you need?

well i'm not gonna buy synths or software or other stuff that i can get for free (legally or not, who cares?), but who am i supposed to properly mix or perform only with a keyboard and touchpad?

or i'll build 2 keytars, take a laptop and a microphone and will have a 4-piece breakcore-band. one for the beats, one for basslines, one for samples and an MC. not THAT'S rock'n'roll 21st century-style

by the way, anyone willing to spend [insert amount of money here] for a legal copy of reason 3.0 ? (no, this is actually not a joke  )

Can you use the launchpad as a normal midi controller?

its only for ableton, at least the way it was built. maybe you can somehow "crack" it, but then you'd just have a lot of buttons without knobs and sliders. so you could use a keymapped keyboard instead... less expensive!

pics or never happened, mah boi!

by the way, i was wrong: there should be a huge pile of open source shit for launchpad, i've read that they published the sourcecode or whatevo (im not into programming at all) for free so people can build software for it.

ah you got me, that seems rather uncomfortable anyway, the whole MILF thing

And since I don't own ableton yet and I'm assuming not to many user created patches for the launchpad exist, I think I'll pass... for now
