My So Called Life

It had to be done. Sorry guys but i think this is an album worth talking about! Mos of the tracks are epic. My personal fav for the moment is hajnal2 which i believe is 100 times better than the original! Anyone who says they like bcore or hardcore jungle needs to get this album!

Its good...but not its best.
Today, I only listent to it 3 times...I listent 5 times to The dreaming tree and Im stil listening to overhard.
Beat Lab 1 and 2 is somting im realy weating for.

Heh, I was handed the link, so I inevitably downloaded it. Yes, I'm badass, I know, etc. Decided to give it a blast today.
Travelled over to Discogs to see if anyone had written anything about the release, to try and grasp if this was going to be worth while spending time on. Noone had of course, so I though I'd come here [my internet world is quite limited] as you scene goers usually have something to say about everything. Needless to say the first topic at the top of the board was 'My so called life' - success. No. I am disappointed. Yes you are abysmal and express nothing to my delight! Much like the album itself you are only worthy of a comical value, the black kind.

Anybody else get this?! I take it he didn't like the album but the rest is jibberish to me!

Sorry - That was me being your album review demon, that you've all quite skilfully suppressed.
Simply naming the track titles on a forum as a response to a post where you are meant to talk about what you actually think about the topic at hand, quite honestly doesn't entertain me. Making me act in such a way.

It is quite ridiculously obvious that Snares is taking the piss with this album. Not to point fingers, not to say that I know the ins and outs of your Breakcore life or anything but I'd pretty much say he would be aiming it at 60%.. ok 70% - no fuck it 80% of the contemporary breakcore fans today.
Unless someone sheds some light on their appreciation for it, addressing the idea that it might/is a joke, it'll really pain me to see you all laughing at yourselves. Ok - exaggeration. Maybe I should have left it a week or 2 let the posts fly in of "Aaron2, Sound Burglar, Hajnal2, Amen Snare Rush, Insulting Sample, etc, etc." before posting... Nah fuck that, got to nip this one in the bud, before the shit escalates.
How can you take this serious? and if you find the body of the track more amusing than the concept then how can you NOT take this seriously?
It clearly is yet another churned out album by Snare quite literally as on the planetMU page it says that he pretty much written all the tracks in a day. Then goes out selling the shit for £13 an album. It sounds like his recycle bin on vinyl if you ask me. Hardly something to jump and scream about - or is it, heh.
It is the equivalent of a Tommy Wiseau film being taken serious.

One: Who in the fuck takes music seriously, the whole point of breakcore is that music is fucking art, and art is the least serious thing possible. IT IS LITERALLY THE MOST OPPOSITE THING OF THE BIOLOGICAL PARADIGM. Anyone who takes art seriously wants art to be entertainment, or business. Art is none of those things. Art is expression, plain and simple. The point of breakcore is that art is what you fucking make of it, and having any pretense other than that devalues art and yourself.
Two: The album is about being this fucking made up breakcore god in the minds of half the "scene". Snaresy never ever gave a fuck. Dude never tried to be teh innovatives. Dude never tried to shatter your perceptions of a medium. Dude was making art. Dude was sitting at trackers making sounds that he felt expressed his unique perceptions. ok i started reading people's reviews, but then got sick of uselessnes so i actually decided to listen to the album.
Horsey Review:
So i got this album for free (thanks, you know who you are) and played it at my wednesday DJ gig last week in its entirety (it was 9:30 on a wednesday) for myself and a few other "real" breakcore fans. Let me say that our initial reaction was fairly positive, and we werent even more than one or two drinks in at that point.
Its good, but vsnares played it safe, no? He's a great artist, and still knows how to sequence drums (some of his best sequencing imho.) however, me being the sound design/drum elitist that i am, i am disappointed with the drum recycling that he has done. dont get me wrong, they are good drums, but i have heard them a million times (literally.)
my biggest compliment is that i can tell he has been listening to more classical music, especially romantic and 20th century music where the boundaries of form, development, and counterpoint were brought to the edges of what even sounds good. his little melodies and counterpoint lines are absolutely captivating, even though some of the synth sounds sound like boo boo.
still, i will listen to it way more than any of your releases, not because i hate you, but because i want to learn from the best. you can hate all you want on vsnares, but there is (and apparently will continue to be) a reason why we have all sucked a nut or two of aaron funk, and if you deny that, then you probably arent making good breakcore...

that being said, SOMEONE IMPRESS ME ALREADY with a NEW approach to breakcore.

i was given it a while ago to review for the next issue of Core Magazine...
VENETIAN SNARES – MY SO CALLED LIFE (TIMESIG)
If Breakcore needed something (and it did btw) then this was it. A new ‘VS’ rave up album and on his own brand new offshoot label of Planet Mu! Don’t get me wrong, I believe most of his works are full of dance till your heart explodes moments but this is particularly more ‘rave’ than his last couple of releases. Think ‘Detrimentalist’ meets ‘Rossz...’ then let loose behind a pharmacy counter. The vocal samples are, as one track perfectly describes as, ‘retarded’ and will have you in stitches while at the same time have you rushing like you’d had 10 ‘Californian Sunrise’s’ back in ’94. You can feel armies of energy charge into your chest in endless, overlapping waves from all elements of each tune, be it from the ever satisfying drum rhythm’s, acid lines, baroque-esque harmonies (my favourite parts btw) or mentasmtastic hoovers.
I could have wrote about this album in serious critique mode and sounded a damn site more eloquent in its description and it would still have been as positive as this review but the fact is, while it can obviously be broken down and critiqued far more maturely, the album is just far too much fun to be written about in such a way. Yes, the usual beard stroking forum trolls may now dedicate at least 3 months flaming that some/everyone is praising ‘VS’ again but we all know what drives such morons. This album and its composer is why i still have faith in Breakcore, still make Breakcore and as long as there is Venetian Snares there will always be Breakcore.
