will breakcore ever be commercially exploited by mainstream

Postby maidenchina » Tue Oct 19, 2010 12:33 am

media?

ie. become "cool" in the way that rap or punk or etc. did, be seen on music television, have a celebrity artist, an so on

or has it already and i am shamefully ignorant?
i eschew tv, newspapers, facebook, etc. but on my university campus all i hear people talking about is dubstep, and i think i read somewhere that snoop dogg released a dubstep song; i feel like it's going the way of so many other genres before it

i feel like i'm missing something

Yes. First a bunch of 11 year olds on youtube start listening to shitty gabbercore remixes of whatever pop schlock they like at the time. Eventually their rich parents buy them a Snares cd, and then they hear them play it and go "Damn, that could really sell a car."
But really no, there might be weird one off crossovers but breakcore delights in making people confused and angry, and if it stopped working then they would do something else. Probably minimalism, I have always liked the idea that one day every single breakcore producer would just get fed up and start to release fourty five minute tracks of one unsliced break looped with the only effect used being the lightest reverb.

There are genres that pre-date many styles which survived the commercialisation process. As one expects they tend to be the most inaccessible/extreme genres. Noise for one springs to mind, not sure if i've ever heard noise music being picked up by the advertisers or anything. I have high hopes for Breakcore.

I'm gonna try and do it. Dont tell anyone Horse Force made breakcore back in 2008, then in 2012 when i go on my last tour (before the apocalypse) i'll play only 200bpm noise breaks until people's genitals turn inside out.

i hear breakcorey/noisey/glitchy stuff on tv all the time.

but tbh, i think these sorts of things are popping up in most genres that are produced electronically these days.....

I. WAS. MEGA. SURPRISED. several hours after reading this, I was playing Castle Crashers (Xbox Live Arcade game) AND THAT, believe it or not folks has breakcore in it, the game's very popular, and borderline mainstream, so there, breakcore is in the mainstream.

If you wanna check it out its on the pirate ship level.

(The whole soundtrack is good fun (as well as the game) and its one of those in there, battle on the high seas I presume... http://www.newgrounds.com/collection/ca ... shers.html)
just memes and donks these days
