My home town churns out a new band every day, all these kids with myspace address, first ever recorded song put up for all to hear. Everyone is utterly gash but I guess that's small towns for you. Everyone needs to be the best...

listening to crappy local bands was a lot more fun when they just made tapes and finding the tapes was like finding buried treasure

i think every person on earth should be in a band, have art shows, be a dj, a producer, a porn star, a label owner.

anything else caters to self importance, no?

*if everyone from my home town was in a band , id consider it a pretty fucking cool place.

If people spent MORE time on their music, genres such as breakcore would have more creativity and ultimately credibility. There are so many variables and possibilities with breakcore but people just don't make the effort to experiment properly anymore, instead churning out track after track of half-arsed wank in a pissing contest to see whose MySpace has the most views/plays/downloads. Sure breakcore would be nothing without the internet but unfortunately the internet is killing it, which is a shame because there was a time when it was a very entertaining and interesting genre. Basically I agree with the person who said quality overy quantity but I'm too lazy to go back and quote them, ironically opting to type up an elongated diatribe of what they managed to say in one sentence anyway.

I agree with most of what Thallium said but I think part of the perceived problem is not that a lot of bedroom producers are half-hearted in their approach but more that they produce a lot of unfinished work. It is a lot easier now with the internet than before to display work in progress and to get feedback. You no longer have to polish a release before displaying it, you can stick your track up on myspace and see what people think. The problem is, people now get bored quickly and move on to other projects without going back to finish what they have started.

(In fact I think that's what you may have said anyway...)

eh, the internet has enabled the mass proliferation of both trash and treasure. sure there's a ton of crap. there always was, we just didn't have such ready access to it!

shit...

quantity over quality, everyday, everytime imo

one man's treasure is another man's trash. people bitching about polishing shit up or better tunes should work for bmg or clear channel.

killing a genre from too much 'bad' music? thats ridiculous.

DTL says there are so many crappy bedroom producers these days, but the reality is he was one, so it empowers him to trash talk that aspect of electronic music. personally i like his stuff, his image is tantamount to that of a wannabe dipshit gangsta douchbag tho. and to support my point i know plenty of people that think his music sucks, needs work etc.

people that bitch about this shit only do so to protect their identity. if everyone writes <insert-core> then im not special and cool anymore.

grow up, wake up. i personally prefer music that isnt polished. I used to polish every tune i wrote endlessly until i polished away the SOUL of the tune. these days i release shit that sometimes i had planned on working on more. i intend to keep doing this and there will never be an end to shit, poorly done half executed ideas floating around out there.

the world +1, elitist "cool" dipshits 0

:P

I think you misunderstand. By "polish" I don't mean over-produce. I agree, over-produced work completely kills the music. But people tend not to complete tracks these days and just leave them in a work-in-progress state. I think a lot of these bedroom producers make really good tunes, but you can see the difference between the quality of sound produced by your average myspace breakcore producer and someone like Bong-Ra for example. It's not necessarily that the professional is better at making music, just that they have the dedication to finish a work for release rather than leaving it for download via a website.

i wouldn't say it's killing bcore specifically, every kind of tech music has this problem right now. especially drum and bass, since ametuers wanna be pro's, and therefore are piss scared to put anything in besides some drums, and some bass, because they think anyone's gonna sign em in the first place. it's too bad.

crazy. I'll take a handful of diamonds over a mountain of shit.

yeah.

I'd say making a track is about 30% creativity and 70% hard grafting - making it sound tight, clear, dense, different, "hang together well", whatever.. Seems some people don't pay too much attention to that part. I've listened to a lot of bedroom tracks and there's just no fucking idea of song structure, arrangement or 'backbone' or anything. of course all the best artists were once bedroom producers, but they had a bit of savvy not to demo any of their early shit because no matter how good you think you are after a weekend with ACID Pro - you're not! :)

Wurd, I'm a bit sick of these kids on myspace adding me with their sony acid/FL core crap - They're mostly on drugs haha.

for an open ended genre like breakcore, some of you people seem to have a really ghey systematic thinking about the way things should be done.

personally, I don't think there's a right or wrong way to write this or any other type of music. just do what sounds good to you.

bedroom producers turning out utter crap?, did some of you consider that maybe they like what they turned out? or maybe they worked hard on it and are proud of it? might be shit to you, but an accomplishment to the producer.

the more I read shit threads like this, the closer breakcore comes to being like the drum and bass scene.

am I on the dogs on acid forum??

stupid
