Question: Drumcorps

Postby xTxRxAxVxIxSx » Sat Jan 26, 2008 6:02 am

I just bought "Grist" off of iTunes, and the problem with that is no liner notes that there would be on the actual CD/Vinyl.

The thing is, I keep hearing samples from songs that I know, but I just can't pin down who they are/what songs. It's pissing me off because the names are right there, I just can't quite get them. :P And then the fact that he actually plays guitar throws me off - makes me think maybe they're not samples at all, but new original stuff. I know that *some* of it's sampled though.

This is all that I've figured out on my own:

Pig Destroyer Destroyer - obviously Pig Destroyer, right? Don't know what track(s).
Incarnate - I caught that the beat is from Around The Fur by Deftones...
Time - Heard that it's Sepultura on the intro

That's ALL, haha. :D Anyone have any more info?

Him and Bong ra sample the hell outta old metal, death metal, grindcore and what not. They really don't try to make it super obivious for legal reasons and thats probably why they don't really list the sample list. They do give some shout outs to certain bands or labels.

Aaron has a rare remix of bad brains on vinyl but its pretty hard to come by. He does play it out live and its on some of his recorded live sets.

I've never come across a breakcore record with liner notes.

Ah, well I've never owned a physical record - all just digital downloads here.

And @ rtificial, thanks for that answer. Makes sense, too. I wonder if Britney Spears would ever give permission for the breakcore 'Toxic' remixes out there, haha. Actually she might now, given that her career is pretty much shot.

incarnate samples a Snapcase [a hardcore band from buffalo on victory records] song with the same name...

time samples the intro Sepultura's - territory [on chaos a.d.]...

I can't remember the name of it. It was a simple 12" on some obscure Japanese label. I think it had a hand drawn skull on it. Its not listed on his site anymore. I was trying to get a copy long ago. Since I'm on my phone I can't do much searching heh.

it's the Amen, Punk 12" on Omeko, which samples Bad Brains - Pay To Cum and can be seen HERE

and it's not that hard to come by. it's on a bunch of distro sites still for sale...

i'm kind of surprised when people don't know most of the samples, cause i think he does make it pretty obvious. although, i have listen to that music all my life and know most of the shit he samples when i hear it...

you gotta hear his Animosity remixes. they tapped him to do a remix EP, which is supposed to come out sometime this year, not sure what label, but it's pretty bangin...
