Hmm, I know he's not the hardcore stuff that's liked around here, but Amon Tobin's always been a excellent producer.

Tech Itch is typically fun, Venetian Snares hasn't failed me yet.
Alec Empire's early stuff is wonderful to m'ears.

Then there's always Black Sun Empire (Netherlands) or Evol Intent (if your on the American Side of things).

Ooh, and Kid Kryptic.
Doormouse, too many to list.

If we're talking stuff that ends in core I'd say producer. in more generral terms it would have to be Autecre. They are way too good.

Actually, Skinny Puppy's soundscapes were all in the hands of Cevin Key and the late great DR Goetell, mostly Cevin though. He has some really cool projects you might be interested in.

LOL yep, I ordered a coke once and the waitress brought me a CORK.

weyheyhey !! wrote:on topic; i loathe the word 'producer' it's so fucking generic. Especially when used in conjunction with 'content'. It's like people are embarrassed to call themselves musicians or something.

Agreed. The term "musician" is completey bypassed for some reason.

From Wiki:

"In the music industry, a record producer (or music producer) has many roles, among them controlling the recording sessions, coaching and guiding the musicians, organizing and scheduling production budget and resources, and supervising the recording, mixing and mastering processes. This has been a major function of producers since the inception of sound recording, but in the later half of the 20th century producers also took on a wider entrepreneurial role."

Even though the article goes on to say "in modern digital music, it is possible for the producer to be the only person involved in the creation of a musical recording", the question posed in this thread refers to traditional producers (ie. RZA, Quincy Jones, Rick Rubin, etc), not "who is your favourite breakcore artist?". ;)

Since you went to the trouble of spelling that out so clearly I'll take back my previous joke answer and give the real one.

George Martin

Cliche, but there you go. I've always been a Beatles fanatic and have no plans on changing.

After listening throught the "LOVE" album I might even rank his son a close second.

NOT UP FOR DEBATE: LOVE is the best "mix" album of all time.

[unnecessarily long post ahead]

You have to wonder, if Beethoven or Mozart or one of the great classical composers were around today, what would it sound like? Rossz might be the obvious answer, but I was just listening to Abelcain's "The Garden" record and I don't think it's that far of a stretch.

I love breakcore just for what it is, that being (in most cases) aggressive music. But some of it just seems to run a little deeper, like it's not something a person would ever grow out of. The producers who make that kind of music are my favorites. Here's a few:

Abelcain (if I had to pick only one...)
Xanopticon
Subskan
Slepcy
Undacova
Emotional Joystick
Line 47
Snares (yeah, whatever else you might think of him, he is a musical genius)

I think all of these guys produce music that does not need to be taken in the context of "hardcore electronic" or anything like that, but stands on its own. I think I'll be listening to their music when I'm 80. A lot of the other stuff in the genre, well, I don't know. Not to pick on any single artist, but Shitmat comes to mind (just as an example) as stuff I highly doubt will be in rotation on my Mindpod©* when I'm an old fart. It's fun, he's talented at what he does, etc., but is it just a flash in the pan?

*a Mindpod© is a 100TB nanoochip that will be invented in 2026, to be implanted in the perineum and will store everything you would ever want to store. Information will be accessed by thought transference. The Mindpod© will go down in the history books with the notoriety of being the invention that finally makes girlfriends obsolete, as video games, jumpstyle and pr0n will be just a synapse away. As always, girls will just not understand.
